Ingredients
1 cup butter or margarine
1 (16 oz) pkg (2 1/4 cup packed) brown sugar
Dash of salt
1 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
Method
Generously butter a 9x9x2 inch pan; set aside. In a heavy 3 quart saucepan, melt the butter or margarine. Add sugar and salt. Stir thoroughly. Stir in corn syrup. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk; stir constantly.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, to 245° (firm-ball stage-- takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Mixture should boil gently over entire surface).
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into buttered pan. When cool, cut into squares with a wet, sharp knife. Wrap each piece in clear plastic wrap or wax paper. Makes about 2 1/2 pounds.
