The village of Boca da Valeria, which means mouth of the Valeria.

BOCA DA VALERIA - 2

Tuesday, February 16th

Today we went on a small boat with Cate and Colleen up the Valeria river.  The boat trip cost $5 per person, and our guide/pilot didn’t speak much English.  After a ten to fifteen minute boat ride, we went ashore.  We walked up a steep hill to see a school, church and the home of our guide.  He introduced us to his mother.  The family is very proud of their home.  The mother gave Barbara a hug and kiss on the cheek when we left.  The children are sweet but don’t smile much.  Perhaps they’re shy.  We spent about a half hour touring the village and then returned by boat to the tender dock.  We’re not sure what was more challenging, walking up the hill in the heat or getting in and out of the small boat.  We had a good day at trivia.  We won both the morning and afternoon sessions (different teammates each time).  One of our questions was: What is the only 10-letter word that uses only the top row on a computer or typewriter?  We’ll give you the answer in a few days.  We got it right.

Today we had both hot sun and heavy rain (typical of a rain forest). We lucked out and didn’t get wet when we were ashore.
