Emerson and Jessie, our fantastic dining room stewards
At Sea/Trinidad/St. Lucia
Sunday, February 21st
We had gorgeous weather for this relaxing day at sea. We spent some time in the morning reading out on the deck. The laughs continued tonight when our dining room stewards wore “Jay” name tags. We suspect Cate and Colleen were behind it.
Monday, February 22nd
We left the ship for about two hours this morning and walked around Port of Spain. We saw some of the historic buildings we had driven by on our tour a couple weeks ago. A pretty promenade runs through the city centre, and it is named after Brian Lara, a famous cricket player. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is beautiful inside. The Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was not open.
Tuesday, February 23
We left the ship after breakfast and walked to the Craft Market and the city centre in Castries, St. Lucia. We didn’t buy anything and did get warm, although the weather is more comfortable than along the Amazon. The laundromat was not busy as most people went ashore, so we did one load quickly. We had lunch with a friendly British couple who run a B & B on the Isle of Wight. They gave us their card--maybe we’ll stay with them if we take the England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland/France trip we’re thinking about. After lunch we went ashore again to buy a bottle of wine in the duty-free shop on the pier. You’re allowed to bring one bottle per person to your cabin, so we’ve bought several bottles on this cruise.
Weather
The skies are blue and temperatures more moderate in the Caribbean than along the Amazon. Only one more port after today (St. Barth’s) and then two sea days to Fort Lauderdale. We’ll be glad to see our family and friends!
