Atlanta

After breakfast in the hotel, we walked around downtown Atlanta.  Centennial Olympic Park and the CNN headquarters were just a few blocks away.  We also walked by the Philips Arena and the Georgia Dome.  After we checked out of the hotel, we drove past the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.  Next we went to the Martin Luther King Jr.  Center.  His birthplace, tomb and the old and new Ebenezer Baptist Churches are all within a few blocks of each other.  We toured the home where he was born and also spent some time in the Visitor’s Center.  The MLK Jr Center is a very impressive place.  The Carter Center is very close by so we went there but couldn’t tour as it is closed for renovations.  We then drove to Lydia and Rick’s in Roswell.  We had a good visit.  They served us snacks and Washington wines while we played a dice game.  Later they took us on a tour of their city.  They treated us to a delicious salmon dinner.  We met their two handsome cats, Ben and Jerry.  Today we only drove 32 miles and walked just over five.

It rained off and on all day today, but not enough to hamper our sightseeing.  We left downtown in the early afternoon and drove a short distance to Lydia and Rick Olson’s home in Roswell.
